History of helparena
...version history...

[October 9th, 2001. 6:45pm]
Changed a few minor details that I'll mention briefly:
-What You Say? section now renamed to The Help Desk
-Got rid of the HTML help section.. figured it wasn't needed (also, I'm not a guru at it)
-Changed the layout of the news on the main page
-Changed the layout of the Ancient History section (or past news/archive)
it now contains page jumps for month (year when it gets that big) and a history
-some other minor code issues now fixed
-added a button to addr who hosts the site currently

That's it for today... the quake3 clan I'm presently in, |TKR|, has
it's first match on the OGL Ladder.
Wish us luck, and I should be back soon with some more updates. The end of September and most of
October have been busy for me, but I took a week off the last week of Oct into November so you should see some
updates coming around that time... I hope to get some before then, but don't cross your fingers.

September 2001

[September 22nd, 2001. 9:45pm]
Progress... slowly, but progress nonetheless.
Well, I'm sure some of us are sick of hearing about the attack on the
World Trade Center, but my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy.

Another thing that I came across today, while I was eating dinner with my parents and older brother...
we were sitting in a restaurant, and an elderly man came to our table. He had the utmost politeness to him
and I've never seen a smile shine brighter. I wish I could quote his exact words, but I'll do my best:

"you may recognize me, or you may not. I'm the guy that waters the trees around here.
I see a nice family sitting here, and what I normally like to do, is sing a little song, if that's okay?"

Of course we said yes, and he went on to sing us a song while we sat at our table. Hell if I know
what song it was, but that's not what mattered to me... what matters is, that this gentleman
was kind enough to present us with his smile, and his kindness to complete strangers.
THAT to me, is memorable. It's stuff like that, that really gives me a sense of hope.
All I ask, is that you all, that frequent the site, take some time out of your busy life
and show someone, a complete stranger, your smile. Your generosity. Your kindness. Your heart.
I bet it will make their day, cause that gentleman, sure made mine.

Also, sorry for the lack of updates... I've been hit hard by the flu but am feeling better right now.
The below link 'ancient history' (past news) is now working...
and as as always (though this is probably the first time), feel the groove...

Getting work done (finally!). Just working on getting the actual
pages themselves up and working with all the links. The content will
come later, but, it will take some time. Please bare with me.

[The birth of helparena...]
It's been a long rigorous process and very time consuming to say the least.
The concept originally started sometime in 2000. Hard to say exactly when, but
I imagine somewhere in the middle of the year. I had a concept early on, and I had a vision
of what I wanted to set out to do. It was the HTML, graphics, and all the other labor
involved that kept helparena's birthdate pushed back over and over again.

The concept has remained the same over a year later, and as I sit back and look
and how helparena has come too, I'm proud to say, the wait was worth it for me (in a sense).
My knowledge of HTML has improved, as well as my graphical endeavours. Also, with the aid
of other HTML guru's, I've found a domain and webhost that I can finally call home.

As with most things... it IS a work in progress. Helparena started out in simple text format
on a geocities account I had. It never saw the light of day as I was just learning and testing
what I knew of HTML at the time. A little bit later, I came across an even better free hosting service.
Hypermart. And thus, helparena got some daylight
and some visitors!!! Shocking I know! Well, in it's early conception, it got good reviews on the basis
of what the site was to be about. The graphics and HTML coding are another story.

I can't say how many concepts, or incarnations I've had, or even come up with, but I can say
that it is many more than what I've talked about here. It's just that they either didn't make it to a
coding or graphic concept yet, so it's not even worth mentioning other than that I had MANY ideas
floating around at the time.

And now we come to late 2001. Helparena is showing vasts signs of improvement from it's other early forms.
Not only in my HTML coding, but in the graphics and in the layout itself. I'm a very artistic person, and I wish
I could run a T3 line to everyone's house, office, or apartment because I would REALLY love to add
all sorts of finesse, and flashy graphics. But I think I'll leave that for the next incarnation (if there is a need for it).
So, I leave you with this: Helparena is here for you, and I've enjoyed every moment of it.
I just wish I could find the time, motivation, energy, commitment to make the site move quicker.
By that I mean, I wish I could sit here for 8 hours a day fine tuning it, adding updates, and adding the content.
But at the moment, the spark has not been lit under my ass. So give me time, and I assure you that
in the coming months I will bring you a site that I hope you will frequent and find answers.
Cheers!
