Timing
Grenades are not only fun to lob around the arena with their cute little "clunk clunk" noises... they can be used in tricking too! The thing about grenades though, is the timing. If you can nail the timing down, you can use grenades very effectively. The uses vary, and in this section I'll cover the basic uses of grenade jumping (gjump) utilizing one grenade. But in later sections (combos), you'll see how grenades can aid you in advanced tricks.

So how do you time a grenade? There are various ways. Sometimes I 'time' it visually, other times I use my mental clock, and sometimes I just do trial and error. The mental clock one is going to be the easiest I imagine. From the moment it leaves your grenade launcher, it's about 2.5 quake seconds... but if I need to time it, I count "one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand" and on the third "thousand" is about when it explodes (depending how fast you count of course). You'll just have to get used to it. Visually, if you are standing on level ground, if you look straight down and shoot the grenade, it will bounce twice and at the height of that bounce, it will explode (about waist level of the player model). If you look straight up and shoot the grenade, it will bounce once and explode just over your head. Those are the visual clues on a basic level. Other times, you just have to lob a test grenade to see where (when) it explodes to time your trick. I've got a demo of me lobbing some grenades if that will help you out.

"Timing is everything"... see, there is some truth to that ;)
So now you got the timing thing down, right? Let's see some tricks already? Hold your horses there sparky. Grenade jumping isn't entirely useful in 'real' situations. They are less accurate, and most times, harder to pull off than a rocket jump. Most grenade tricks are done in combos, which is covered a few sections later. But since you've waited patiently, I shall conjur up the demo gods and offer up the gjump demos that I possess.
